Midfielder Puma has opted for an international career with Cape Verde. This means that the 25-year-old could feature in the 9 October World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Praia.
The 25-year-old Puma holds Portuguese citizenship and has become the latest player from the Cape Verdian diaspora to be called up by national coach Alexander Alhinho.
Puma, who plays for Vitoria Setubal in the Portuguese champiuonship, played his first league game of this season last weekend.
He is among the 15 foreign-based players who have been included in the 18-man squad.
Cape Verde, in qualifying Group Two, are last with four points.
