Former Nigeria striker Samson Siasia is the new under-20 coach

The Nigeria Football Association has named Samson Siasia as the new coach of their under-20 side.

Siasia is a former Super Eagles striker and was part of the team that went to the World Cup in the USA in 1994.

His most memorable moment coming when he scored a brilliant goal as Nigeria lost 2-1 to Argentina in the group stages of the competition.

Siasia, who also played for French club Nantes, has a huge task ahead of him trying to resurrect the fortunes of a declining under-20 side.

Samson Siasia's first assignment will be on 18 July in Kinshasa when Nigeria take on the DR Congo in an Africa Youth Championship qualifier.

The last time Nigeria qualified for the World Youth Championships, for under-20 sides, was in 1989 and they played in 1999 when they hosted the event.

1989 was also Nigeria's best showing at under-20 level where they lost 2-0 to Portugal in the final in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Godwin Izilien will take charge of the under-17 side, nicknamed the Golden Eaglets, and Felix Ibe will coach the women's under-19 side, known as the he Falconets.

The appointment of a new Head of Technical Department will be decided by the Sports Ministry according to NFA spokesman.

"The names of Alphonsus Dike and Kahimawo Laloko have been forwarded to the ministry," says Kaalu.
