The 2004 Premier League season in Ghana is set to kick-off next weekend following a High Court ruling in the Western town of Sekondi on Monday. The court ruled that the new season should go ahead despite the fact that another court case whose outcome could alter the composition of Ghana's top-flight league is still pending.
The Premier League season should have commenced on 2 May but was stopped by a court order following a legal challenge by a fan of relegated club Prestea Mine Stars.
The court handed down the ruling on the grounds that the disgruntled fan's case in which he was challenging the deduction of six points from Mine Stars was still to be resolved.
But a judge in Sekondi ruled that the league season must go ahead whilst the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Mine Stars fan battle out the case in court.
The judge said that if the court rules in favour of the fan, then Mine Stars would retain their place in the Premier League.
The GFA has not fixed a new date for the start of the league but it is unlikely to be this weekend because four Ghanaian clubs involved in Caf club competitions.
