Malawi's Bakili Bullets hold Tunisia's Etoile Sahel to a draw |
Tunisia's Etoile Sahel make it through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after a 1-1 draw at home to Malawi's Bakili Bullets. The draw also means that Bakili Bullets still have a chance of finishing second in Group A.
The Tunisian side, who are still unbeaten in the group stages, will top the group while Bakili Bullets move to five points, two behind second-placed defending champions Enyimba.
A home victory over Enyimba, who lost to the Ivory Coast's Africa Sports earlier on Sunday, in three weeks time will see Bakili Bullets qualifying for the semi finals.
The Tunisians squandered several chances, especially in the first half when they had little to show for their complete dominance of territory and possession.
With star midfielder Zoubeir Beya pulling the strings from midfield only poor finishing by Kandia Traore and Emeka Opara that kept Bakili Bullets in the game.
Traore eventually gave Etoile Sahel the lead in the 27th minute with a ferocious strike from the left hand side of the box which beat the Bakili Bullets goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi at the near post.
The Bullet's equaliser on the stroke of half time had a touch of good fortune as Etoile Sahel's Nigerian goalkeeper Austine Ejide let a seemingly innocuous high cross from the right by Fisher Kondowe slip through his hands and cross the line.
The goal gave Bullets confidence to take the game to Etoile as they created chances of their own.
But the home side finished strongly as the Malawians hung on for dear life in the closing stages as Etoile were denied by some good saves by Sanudi and also the woodwork which kept out Traore's powerful 25 metre shot.
