Angola reach their third final in six years |
An opportunistic goal from Flavio gave Angola a 1-0 victory over Mozambique in the semi-final of the Cosafa Cup.
Flavio's header from a free kick in the 68th minute earned the Palancas Negras their third appearance in the Cosafa Cup final in six years.
Unable to call upon any of their foreign-based professionals, Angola were able to secure victory despite a near capacity crowd of 50,000 supporting the home side.
Angola had a 2nd minute chance from Stopirra cleared off the line by Mozambique defender Tomas but there were few clear cut opportunities thereafter.
Mozambique's best chance of the game came through Goncalves Fumo who nearly scored with a header before half-time, after squeezing between two defenders.
But Mozambique, bidding for their first appearance in the final, lost all initiative after conceding the goal.
Their key striker Tico-Tico, who had played a cup match in South Africa 24 hours earlier, was taken off as a result of exhaustion.
Angola now have to wait over a month to find out the identity of their opponent.
Zimbabwe and Zambia meet in Harare on 24 October in the other semi-final of the competition.
