Kalou has been fast-tracked into the Feyenoord first team |
Ivorian-born Salomon Kalou, who plays for Holland's Feyenoord, is setting his sights on playing international football for the Netherlands.
Kalou has told the Dutch media he is seeking to take out the country's nationality and that he has the support of Holland's football authorities.
Should Kalou succeed in his bid, it would create the rare situation where he would represent the Netherlands while his elder brother would be performing for the Ivory Coast.
Bonaventure Kalou, who played for Feyernoord between 1997 and 2003, is the current captain of the Elephants.
"I'd like to play for Holland," Salomon Kalou explained.
"I've never been called up by the Ivory Coast although I was supposed to go to last year's world youth championships but got injured.
"If I get a Dutch passport, then I can be part of the under-20 side that is going to host next year's world championships.
"It would be much better for my career to have a European passport."
The 19-year-old has scored four goals in the first four matches of the new Dutch season since he rejoined Feyenoord after a season on loan at neighbours Excelsior.
"I think he is a good player and I'd like to have him in my side," said Dutch under-20 coach Foppe de Haan.
"He might even go straight into the senior side."
Kalou's brother, who now plays for French side Auxerre, already has Dutch citizenship but with dual nationality still represents his country of origin.
