Porto's Benni McCarthy has been called into a South Africa training squad

The Porto player missed the African Nations Cup finals in Tunisia earlier this year after a row over his availability for the tournament but is now back in the national team set-up.

The South Africans will assemble from 26-29 April at Pennyhill Park in Surrey for the camp.

New national coach Stuart Baxter named 21 foreign-based players for the camp, which will be his first chance to work with his key players.

Baxter also named two uncapped players in the squad, Johannesburg-born defender Mark Arber, who plays for English second division side Peterborough United, and Rowen Hendricks, who is at Russian club FC Rostov.

Arber is a former apprentice at Tottenham Hotspur and is a British citizen but was born in South Africa, where his father played for Johannesburg club Rangers.

Hendricks was formerly with Eintracht Frankfurt and played one match in the German Bundesliga before returning home to play for Ajax Cape Town before moving to Russia.

There are also recalls for the likes of Glen Salmon, Dillon Sheppard and Mark Fish, who have been absent from the South African squad for several years.

According to the South African Football Association the camp is the first step for the coach to assess overseas based players

The next step is to hold a camp in South Africa to enable him to work with locally based players.

The ultimate objective is come up with a strong Bafana Bafana team that will ensure that South Africa qualifies for the 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations .
