Angola and Benfica's Pedro Mantorras has been operated on again |
Portuguese side Benfica are hoping Angolan striker Pedro Mantorras will be back in action in October after his latest injury setback. Mantorras went under the surgeon's knife again last week, after his troublesome right knee gave way again during Benfica's pre-season preparations.
The former Young African Player of the Year had been recovering from three operations over the last 18 months, as he fought his way back from a potentially career-ending injury.
Benfica officials said they hoped that he would be back in action in October, adding that he has left hospital just days after the operation and has already resumed light work in the gym.
Mantorras missed the entire last season sidelined by the knee problem.
His injuries have also curtailed his international career to just three caps for Angola's senior side since 2001.
The Angolan faced problems of a different nature last month when he was arrested at Lisbon's international airport on suspicion of carrying a false passport.
The 22-year-old was questioned by border police for an hour and then apparently spent the night behind bars, before being released pending further investigations.
At the time the border police are quoted as saying that they had found scratch marks over the validation date on the player's passport as well as other "signs of falsification."
