Ghana stage dramatic comeback

Ghana's Gyan Baffur skips away from a Paraguayan challenge

Ghana kept their Olympic qualification hopes alive with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Paraguay in Group B.

After Carlos Gamarra had given Paraguay a 76th minute lead, Ghana staged a stunning turnaround.

William Tiero equalised after 81 minutes, before Stephen Appiah fired home the matchwinner with just six minutes left.

With Italy beating Japan 3-2 in the other group game, Ghana lie second in Group B on four points, only trailing the Italians on goals scored.

Ghana, who won bronze in the competition in 1992, are certain of a place in the quarter-finals should they avoid defeat against the Japanese on Wednesday.

In Group D meanwhile, Morocco suffered a 2-1 reverse against Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring two minutes before the break, and Ricardo Costa doubled that lead after 73 minutes.

Bouabid Bouden's 85th-minute equaliser was little more than consolation for the north Africans.

The Moroccans must beat group leaders Iraq on Wednesday and hope that Portugal fail to beat Costa Rica if they are to qualify.

Iraq's 2-0 victory over Costa Rica makes them the first team through to the quarter-finals.
