SuperSport will struggle to get their hands on the Champions League trophy |
South Africa's SuperSport United got their first Champions League point on Saturday thanks to a 1-1 draw with Jeanne d'Arc of Senegal. The South African side must have thought they were going to get all three points in Pretoria with the Senegalese side only equalising late in the game.
Just 500 fans saw SuperSport United take the lead eight minutes after half-time with a goal from captain Ricardo Katza.
Katza's goal came from a flying header off a Mandla Zwane free kick.
Just three minutes later SuperSport's Siboniso Gaxa was shown the red card for a second bookable offence.
The Senegalese club attacked continuously following the sending off and were rewarded with a goal in the 89th minute.
Makhete Ndiaye's equaliser was a repeat of Katza's goal when he headed home a Niokhor Fall free kick.
SuperSport United remain at the bottom of the group with their single point while Jeanne d'Arc move up into second spot with four points from their three matches.
Esperance top the standings with a maximum nine points after their 2-1 win over third-placed USMA of Algeria on Friday.
Makhete Ndiaye equalised in similar fashion, heading in a Niokhor Fall free kick.
