Bartlett is aiming for his 65th cap |
South Africa's top goalscorer Shaun Bartlett is to return to the national team for the friendly international against Australia on 30 March. Bartlett is one of several regulars who return to the side for the match at the Loftus Road ground of English club Queens Park Rangers.
The Charlton Athletic player announced his retirement from international football last year, to avoid being called up to play in the Cup of Nations in January and February, as he was trying to earn a new contract with his English club.
The 31-year-old Bartlett, who has scored 26 goals in 64 appearances for his country, agreed to return to the national team after talks last month with the South African Football Association.
Also returning are Bradley Carnell, who has not played since the 2002 World Cup finals, and goalkeeper Hans Vonk, dropped on the eve of the last World Cup.
Midfielder Steven Pienaar of Ajax Amsterdam is also back in the team after a knee injury kept him out of Tunisia 2004.
South African officials have failed to persuade Porto striker Benni McCarthy to return for the match after he quit international football last year to concentrate on club commitments in Portugal.
