Ghanaian-born Freddy Adu has been called up to the US under-20 squad

Two players with African roots, George Weah Junior and Freddy Adu, have been called up to the United States under-20 squad.

Weah Jnr. is the son of Liberian football legend George Weah but has an American mother who lives in Florida, while the Ghanaian-born Adu has already played for the team at the recent World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates.

The pair have been called up to take part in a series of training camps in Florida in preparation for the 2005 World Youth Championships in the Netherlands.

16-year-old Weah Jnr is currently on the books of Italian side AC Milan, while Adu plays for DC United in the Major League Soccer in the United States.

Weah Jnr has already made an impact for the under-20's, scoring the equaliser in the 74th minute during a 2-2 draw with MLS opponents Columbus Crew.

Adu is already a huge star in the US after some outstanding performances at the 2003 Under-17 World Championships in Finland, which prompted his call up to the under-20's for the World Youth Championships in the UAE.

More than four thousand fans turned up to watch the squad practice in Florida to see the Ghanaian-born youngster in action, with officials saying that they could have sold even more tickets for the session.
