South Africa's Nasief Morris (left) in action for Panathinaikos |
South Africa defender Nasief Morris has been temporarily suspended from playing football by world governing body Fifa.
Morris, who features for Panathinaikos, is not allowed to play in any domestic Greek league, friendly or official international matches.
The suspension comes after the referee at an African Olympic qualifying match made a report that the defender attempted to attack him after South Africa lost 2-1 to Zambia on 21 February.
South Africa's Olympic squad are now out of contention for this summer's games in Athens after losing to Ghana 2-1 on 13 March.
Fifa is expected to make a final ruling on Morris' status in the next 30 days, Panathinaikos officials said.
The Athens-based side is currently in second place in the league, one point behind defending champions Olympiakos.
