Cameroon must qualify for Athens 2004 to defend their gold medal |
Olympic champions Cameroon have kept alive their hopes of qualifying for Athens 2004 with a 2-0 win over the Ivory Coast in Yaounde. Sunday's win puts Cameroon on top of group B with 10 points and two games left.
Playing with eight Europe-based players, Cameroon were the better side and scored a goal early in each half.
Francis Ze headed in a long throw-in from skipper Narcisse Abada in the 12th minute, while Marcus Mokake, who has just signed for Sedan in France, made it 2-0 with another header six minutes after the break.
Cameroon had the chance to score more goals but Paul Essola's 4th-minute penalty was beaten out by Ivorian goalkeeper Yobou Agbo.
