Martins has been in good form for his club this season

Nigerian officials have said they will not stop Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins from playing for Cameroon if he accepts their call-up.

Martins has been named in Cameroon's squad for an Olympic qualifier later this month - having long been tipped to be a Nigerian international.

The striker was listed in coach Jean-Paul Akono's preliminary 40-man squad for the match against Ivory Coast on 22 February in Yaound�.

The 19-year-old, who has had a successful season so far in Italy's Serie A, has twice turned down the chance to play for Nigeria.

"If Martins has decided to play for Cameroon, good luck to him," said Nigeria Football Association (NFA) chairman Ibrahim Galadima.

"It is his personal decision and we cannot stop him from doing what he so wishes. We, on our part, insist that there won't be any regrets from his decision."

Cameroon FA boss Iya Mohamed has refused to deny or confirm Martins' invitation to the Olympic squad.

Martins was named in the initial Super Eagles' squad for the Cup of Nations, but turned down the call-up, saying that going to Tunisia would be "injurious" to his club career.
