Nigeria's Stephen Keshi has fond memories of Tunisia '94 |
Being back in Tunisia for the African Cup of Nations brings back some great memories for me.
I'm taken back to the day, 10 years ago, when I helped Nigeria win the title.
But now I'm here not as a player but as part of the BBC team and I admit that making the transition has not been easy.
For the first two years after I left the game, making the adjustment to life after football was difficult.
Luckily, it's a lot easier now and I actually enjoy looking at football from a coach's and commentator's perspective.
Looking at Nigeria's chances of winning this tournament - I think they could win it. You can never rule them out.
However, I must admit that I am not happy with the discipline in the national team.
If I was the manager of the Super Eagles, I would not have selected Nwankwo Kanu in the squad for this tournament.
 | I hope that the Super Eagles overcome all their off-field problems |
I would not have tolerated him going to Nigeria on private business when he is supposed to be training with the team in Portugal.
Yet I am not criticising the coaches, because we all have our way of doing things.
I also feel that the exclusion of Wilson Oruma from the squad is unfair.
Based on his performance in the French league with Sochaux, he should have been allowed to fight for a place in the squad.
Oruma would have been the perfect replacement for Jay-Jay Okocha if he was to get injured or was playing below par in a game.
Having said that, l pray that nothing happens to Jay-Jay because he is playing the best football of his career.
