Koufie stays on to handle unresolved matters |
Ben Koufie's term as chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been extended by three months.
Koufie's term ended on 31 December but the GFA's executive council ruled that he continue in office to handle a number of important issues.
The GFA is currently searching for a new national coach and is in a legal dispute with clubside Obuasi Goldfields, which won a court case to restore league points that had been deducted after they had used an ineligible player during last season's league campaign.
Goldfields, losing finalist in the 1997 African Champions League, lost twelve points for fielding Cameroonian Valentine Atem when he did not have the required documents to work in Ghana.
Koufie has served just one term as GFA chairman but insists he will not put himself up for re-election because he wants to concentrate on his commitments with Fifa and Caf.
The next GFA chairman will be selected from two candidates that will be nominated by the country's government.
No clear favourite has emerged to succeed Koufie, as his vice-chairman and former African Footballer of the Year Abedi 'Pele' Ayew has declared he is not interested in the job.
