Youth player fails drugs test

The Egyptian youth player, Amir Azmy, has been banned from all football after testing positive for nandrolone.

According to an official announcement from Fifa, the Zamalek defender tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug at the World Youth Championship in the UAE.

The statement from Fifa said that the 20-year-old had submitted two samples for testing and both had produced positive results.

Fifa says it has informed the player and the Egyptian Football Association regarding its findings.

Azmy underwent the drugs test just after the group match with Japan in Dubai on 5 December.

Egypt qualified for the final round of 16 int he tournament but subsequently lost to an extra time golden goal against Argentina.

Azmy's test was the second positive case from the Youth Championship following the German goalkeeper, Alexander Walke, who tested positive for THC.

"I am amazed, disappointed and sad," Fifa President Sepp Blatter said.

The chairman of the Fifa Disciplinary Committee has suspended Azmy from all national and international matches until further notice.

The Fifa Disciplinary Committee will deal with Azmy's case at their meeting in Zurich on 22 December.
