Khan plans says he will bring accountability and transparency |
Rafiq Khan has become the new chairman of the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa), beating his main rival Vincent Pamire in a close contest. Overseers from Fifa and Caf were satisfied with the exercise, which lays to rest the threat of Zimbabwe receiving a ban from international football.
Khan polled 16 votes to Pamire's 14, with three votes for Francis Zimunya and two for Morrison Sifelani.

"It's a new era for Zimbabwean football," said Khan, who gave up his post as chairman of the Premier Soccer League after his victory. "The immediate task is the Nations Cup, but I'm looking beyond Tunisia - we must focus on the development structures that have been neglected."
"It's nice to have power, but it's important how you use it. I'll bring accountability, transparency and openness to Zifa.
The two opposing factions that had been involved in a fierce power struggle participated in the elections.
Pamire, who had been the acting chairman of Zifa, accepted defeat and wished the new board well.
Fifa representative Mehmed Spaho gave his approval to the process, which had been ordered by football's world governing body.
"The elections were fair and democratic, it's a day to be happy, but hard work must start tomorrow," he said.
In other posts contested, former Highlanders football club chairman Wyatt Mpofu was elected Zifa vice-chairman, and Charles Nhemachena and Remigio Makoni became board members.
