Lauren gets English sanction
Lauren Etame Mayer
The Cameroonian will miss four games
Cameroonian defender Lauren Etame Mayer has been suspended and fined by the English Football Association for his violent behaviour at the end of Arsenal's game against Manchester United on 21 September.

Lauren - who is punished along with Arsenal team mates Martin Keown, captain Patrick Viera and Ray Parlour - will miss four matches and will pay a US $68,000 fine.

He will miss the league matches against Birmingham, Leicester and Fulham and a League Cup tie against Wolves on 2 December.

Lauren was found guilty of "forcibly pushing" Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy in the back after the referee's final whistle.

The Cameroonian had confronted the Dutch striker after Vieira had been sent off and he also kicked out at Quinton Fortune, Manchester United's South African midfielder.

Arsenal also received a fine of $297,500 for failing to ensure the proper behaviour of its players at the end of the game at Old Trafford.

The FA warned the club to improve its conduct in the future.

Arsenal, which has 14 days to appeal against the English FA's ruling, said they were "currently considering its position."

"Arsenal requires its players to behave properly at all times, both on and off the field," their statement said.

"The club accepts that what occurred during and immediately after the match ... fell well below the required standard. The club accepts responsibility for the behaviour of its players.

"[Manager] Arsene Wenger strives to ensure that his players do not cross the line which divides committed play from improper or violent conduct.

"The players are instructed not to allow themselves to be provoked and are reminded that their triumphs have come when they have not allowed themselves to be distracted from the game," the club said.
