Zambia technical director Kalusha Bwalya has expressed his delight that his first match in charge of the national team ended in triumph.

Bwalya assumed his post in September, and on Sunday the Chipolopolo crushed the Seychelles 4-0 in a vital 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier.

"I could not have had a better start in the Africa and World Cup qualifying series than the Seychelles result," Bwalya told the BBC Sport website.

"I think this can be attributed to the fact that all the players were motivated while all the foreign-based players we called came."

Russia-based midfielder Gift Kampamba was one such player and he scored the Chipolopolo's opening goal before Dudley Fichite, Harry Milanzi and Numba Mumamba added the others.

As Zambia strive to reach their maiden World Cup finals, their technical director deems it important that the team build on Sunday's fine display.

"The boys played really well in the Seychelles and they have set a standard for themselves," he said.

Despite the fact that the second leg of the Seychelles qualifier has yet to be played, Bwalya declared himself confident that Zambia would perform well in the group stages of the 2006 Africa and World Cup qualifiers.

Nonetheless, the former African Footballer of the Year said his squad would approach the game against the Seychelles on 15 November seriously despite their four-goal lead.

"In football, every day is a challenge so you can't sit back thinking that you have already achieved your best," he explained.

Bwalya signed a three-month contract with the Zambian FA in early September, and speculation on his long-term future has centred on whether Zambia will progress to the group stages of the 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifying.

Yet the coach refused to be drawn on whether he will renew his contract.

"I am here for a long time and I'll see what happens," he said.
