Some players have been found |
Police in Finland have found most of the 13 Sierra Leone players who went missing after their elimination from the Fifa U-17 World Championship. The west Africans, who were based in Lahti, were eliminated during the group stage of the tournament, following a draw and two defeats.
"Over half of them have been found, all outside of Lahti," said police spokesman Taito Haara.
"We haven't talked to them yet, but we will do that by the end of the week to see what their intentions were.
"It's possible they applied for asylum," he added.
Police in the capital Helsinki, where some of the missing players were found on Friday, have declined to say if any asylum applications had been filed because they are always handled in secrecy.
Finland has one of the strictest immigration policies in Europe and the bulk of asylum applications are turned down.
