Top Tunisian clubs punished
Tunisia's El Menzah stadium
The El Menzah stadium in Tunis was the scene of Sunday's crowd trouble
Esperance and Club Africain have both been punished following violence that marred Sunday's 0-0 league clash between the two sides.

Supporters of the two giants of Tunisian football threw stones at each other during and after the game, resulting in damage to Tunis' El Menzah stadium.

A disciplinary committee that included the Tunisian Interior Minister Hedi M'henni and representatives of the league as well as the Tunisian Football Association met on Monday evening to discuss the incident.

As a result, the clubs face the possibility of having to play their next two matches against each other behind closed doors.

In addition, any fans found to be involved in the incidents face prosecution and a five-year ban from the El Menzah stadium.

Both supporters associations were fined $7,500 each and will have to pay for the damage caused to the stadium.
