Johnson must find a new club |
Turkish club Fenerbahce sacked their Ghanaian defender Samuel Johnson on Thursday. Johnson's dismissal was part of changes demanded by the club's new German coach Christophe Daum.
Daum was brought in to revive Fenerbahce, which finished a distant sixth in last season's league campaign.
The 30-year-old Ghanaian had been with Fenerbahce since 1999 and scored 18 goals.
Apparently, his international career is over after he was dropped in 2001, along with other prominent players ahead of the Nations Cup finals in Mali last year.
Coach Fred Osam-Duodu had made the changes to rejuvenate the national team.
Johnson began his career with Ghanaian first division Hearts of Oak.
A broken leg suffered at the 1994 Nations Cup finals in Tunisia set his career back for almost two years.
He also played for Kalamata in Greece, Anderlecht of Belgium and Turkey's Gaziantepsor.
