Lesotho's win could not lift them off the bottom of Group 8

Lesotho beat Gambia 1-0 at home to register their maiden victory in Group 8.

The southern Africans left it late, however, as Molefe Makhele's winner came with just three minutes left.

The strike was Lesotho's very first of the qualifying campaign, but keenly celebrated by the 10,000 fans inside Maseru's national stadium.

And the home side had further reason to celebrate as their defence claimed a clean sheet for the first time in Group 8.

Yet Lesotho's victory was not enough to lift them off the bottom of the group.
