Has Alex Nyarko made the right move?
Alex Nyarko
Nyarko has gone back on his word
Got an opinion? Express it here. Each week we throw a different subject to let followers of African football have their say. Some of your views will be read on Fast Track - the BBC's African sports programme.

This week the topic is:

Did Alex Nyarko make the right decision by going back to English Premiership club Everton?

The Ghanaian midfielder refused to play for Everton after an April 2001 incident when a fan ran on to the pitch to remonstrate with him during a game against Arsenal.

The supporter, frustrated with what he perceived to be a lack of effort from the player, tried to swap shirts with him, saying he could do better.

After the incident, Nyarko vowed never to play for Everton again, saying his year at the club was the worst time of his life.

But now that he is back, do you think that Everton fans should forgive him? Or should he have stuck to his word and not returned?

No matter how controversial your views may be, use the form on the right to have your say.

He shouldn't bother trying to get back into the Everton team. We don't need him. He only wants to play for us again because he has no alternative.
Iain Wells, UK

He should stick to his word and next time he should not let emotion override reason. Look for another club, Alex.
David Madzivanyika, Zimbabwe

My advice to Nyarko is that he must be careful because his decision to go back to Everton may not work out. As a black African player, too much will be expected of him by the team's fans and if he fails to perform to their expectations, then he may have to leave again!
Noah Attah, Cotonou, Benin

The problem with Alex is nothing but arrogance. But I hope Everton fans will give him another chance as I am sure that they will be happy with his output this time round.
Aminu Sanda, Sweden

It's a bad decision for Nyarko to return to the same club that he vowed never to play for again. It's a sign of weakness which may eventually spell his doom in football. From now on every single mistake he makes on the field will attract much more criticism from the fans.
Worlanyo Sosu-Sedzorme, Vancouver, Canada

I think the Everton fans and management owe this guy an appology for the way he was treated. His behaviour was quite unprofessional but the root cause of it must be identified and corrected. A man cannot just walk away from millions of pounds for no reason! And to my brother Alex, I say, this time give it your all and prove your critics wrong. You must also must reconsider joining the Ghana national team.
Kofi Sarfo, Ghanaian in USA

As far as I'm concerned Nyarko went back to Everton because he didn't have a choice.
Samuel Kofi Korankye, UK

Nyarko should quit playing football immediately. Does he think he is the only one who gets harrassed by some irrational fans? If he can't stand the negative side effects of professional football, he should forget it.
K. Attafua, Switzerland

I think Nyarko has made the right decision. It's the only way to prove that particular supporter wrong.
Seth Owusu Mensah, UK

There are well over a million teams the world over that Alex could play for. His decison to go back to Everton is the worst any player can make under the circumstances. He is actually a 'stranded passenger' with no options.
Johnny Appiah-Kubi, Ghana

Nyarko is a loser. Stick to your words next time, Alex. Be a man and swallow it!
Ubby E, USA

I wonder what has changed at Everton that makes Alex think he can now go back. He has no business at Everton. Pride doesn't play football and that is what he has in abundance.
Kojo, New York, USA

Let's not make this another Everton-Race issue. The fact is, black or white, Everton demand a player gives one hundred percent, even if he's not the most skillfull player on earth. Nyarko simply did not try!
Darren, London

I don't think Nyarko should have left in the first place. The same thing happened to David Beckham in 1999. He didn't run away.
Kunal Mohan, Belgium

There is only one reason for Alex's decision to go back to Everton - money. He has nothing to offer.
Carruthers Kwaku, Ghana

I hope all players who don't show love for Ghana never make it.
Idi, New York, USA

I love Alex Nyarko
Rod Wallace, Chester, UK

What a man of no principle. Alex, you could do yourself a favour by not going back to the place you so despised.
Anyam, Ghana

What does the fact that after two years, no one wants to buy him say? Swallowing his pride may embarrass him, but he has one other choice and that's quiting the game!
Al Gunn, Nottingham, UK
