Gaddafi seeks Caf presidency
Saadi Gaddafi
Saadi Gaddafi is Vice President of the Libyan FA
Al Saadi Gaddafi, vice-president of Libya's FA, intends to be a candidate in the Confederation of African Football's (Caf) presidential elections, scheduled for January 2004.

Gaddafi will formally announce his intention at a press conference to be held in Tripoli on Thursday.

Gaddafi is the son of Libyan president Muammar and is an international footballer.

He is also part of the organisation that has bought shares in several European clubs, including Juventus.

But Gaddafi will face stiff opposition from other candidates.

Incumbent president Issa Hayatou has led African football since 1988 and will be seeking another term.

Botswanan Ismail Bhamjee, a member of Caf's executive committee, has also declared his interest.

The elections will take place before the start of the next Nations Cup finals in Tunisia.
