Chukwu is isolated after recent disappointing displays |
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) is meeting on Thursday to determine the future of the Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu. The meeting is being scheduled at a time when the fans and media are calling for Chukwu's dismissal after a run of mediocre performances.
Chukwu had been asked to submit a detailed report of his activities with the Eagles in the last year.
"The meeting will determine the fate of the coach," the NFA boss Ibrahim Galadima said.
"But no one is considering sacking him because the board meeting is a normal one."
"Our technical committee will look at the report and give the board their findings."
Nigeria were thrashed 3-0 and outclassed by world champions Brazil in a friendly played in the capital, Abuja.
Then, a haphazardly selected second-string side had to come from behind to draw 2-2 against Angola in a Nations Cup qualifier in Benin City.
The draw gave Nigeria the required one point to make a total eight and the qualification ticket for the Nations Cup tournament in Tunisia next year.
Since taking charge of the team last year, Chukwu has lost only twice - friendlies against Jamaica and Brazil - in over a dozen games.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian sports ministry maintains that Chukwu should be in charge of the Eagles for the Nations Cup finals in Tunisia.
But many of Nigeria's soccer-crazy fans argue that he has no international coaching pedigree and that the Eagles will perform poorly under him in Tunisia.
