Pablo has been coaching in Italy |
Uganda's FA said Argentine coach Pasculli Pedro Pablo will take charge of the Cranes for its remaining African Nations Cup qualifiers.
The 43-year old coach was a member of Argentina's 1986 World Cup winning squad and scored in Argentina's 1-0 win over Uruguay at that tournament.
Alberieux Giacomo, Uganda's honorary Consul to Italy told BBC Sport on Sunday that he had contacted Pablo and a deal has already been concluded.
"If they qualify for the Nations Cup, then he will sign a more extensive deal."
Pablo is expected in Kampala on 15 May and will work with coaches Paul Edwin Hasule and Leo Adraa.
The Argentine is currently on the technical bench of Italian club Lecce.
Although Pablo understands very little English, Giacomo said he will work with an interpreter.
Ugandan FA technical committee chairman John Ssemanobe said Pablo's input could be the key to qualification for Tunisia 2004.
"Some people are objecting to this move but I can assure you that this man will be here," said the FA treasurer Patrick Isiagi.
"His CV is rich, he played in the 1986 World Cup along with (Diego)Maradona and has been coaching in Italy for over 15 years and his demands are affordable."
Uganda, whose remaining matches are against Rwanda and Ghana, lead Group 13 with four points, one more than the four-time African champions.
