Stephan plays down chances to win next Nations Cup in Tunisia |
Senegal coach Guy Stephan has played down their chances of winning next year's Nations Cup in Tunisia. Stephan said his players should not be caught up in post-qualification euphoria.
"Let's take things one at a time and savour this qualification.
"Tunisia is a long time away, and many things will change before we play in the tournament," Stephan told BBC Sport in Dakar.
Senegal, yet to win an African title, will be appearing in their ninth finals.
"That might sound good, but Tunisia will be the 24th Nations Cup tournament.
"It means we have missed the finals 15 times, so historically, Senegal is not a great African footballing nation," Stephan pointed out.
Despite the manager's warning, Senegalese fans think the Lions will lift the Nations Cup trophy in Tunisia.
At the 2002 tournament in Mali, the Lions lost the Cup on penalties to Cameroon.
