Liberia will be playing in Accra - again |
Liberia's chances of making only their third Nations Cup finals have been dealt a major blow after Caf ruled their home qualifier against Guinea must be played at a neutral venue in Ghana. Fighting in and around the Liberian capital Monrovia has made playing the game there too dangerous.
Caf has decided that the game will be played in Accra on Saturday instead.
Although a cease-fire has been agreed between the Liberian government and rebels, the situation in Monrovia is still too volatile to risk the game going ahead.
Liberia also used Accra as a venue for four home games during the qualifiers for the 1998 World Cup finals because of civil war.
The Lone Star sit at the bottom of their group on goal difference, with Guinea at the top.
But all four teams have six points each. With just two rounds of games left to play, home advantage would have been a major boost to the Lone Star's hopes of reaching Tunisia 2004.
