Chukwu could be under pressure |
Nigeria 0-3 BrazilGil, Luis Fabiano and Adriano scored as Brazil defeated Nigeria in their first meeting at full international level.
But despite the scoreline, the Super Eagles were not humiliated.
There were periods of the game, especially in the first half hour, where the hosts enjoyed the majority of the possession and appeared comfortable against the young Brazil side.
The difference though, was in the crucial final third of the field.
Ricardinho and Ronaldinho Gacho pulled the strings from deep.
The former set up the opening goal in the 33rd minute, slipping in Gil behind Nigeria's right-back for a left-foot finish.
Five minutes later, Ronaldinho fed overlapping right-back Beletti, whose well judged far post cross was headed home by Luis Fabiano.
And seven minutes from the end, Brazil produced a similar move down the left.
Ricardinho's pass sent left-back Kleber on the prowl and his low cross was fumbled by Enyeama for Adriano of Parma to lash into the net.
Clearly inspired by the visit of the world champions, Nigeria midfielder Austin Okocha tormented the Brazil back four with a series of dangerous chips into the spaces behind or between the defenders.
But Nigeria lacked a striker worthy of such quality service from Okocha.
The win left Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira with plenty to celebrate.
Anxious to reduce his team's attacking dependence on Ronaldo, he has turned to Brazil's new generation of strikers and he will be delighted that three of them were on target against Nigeria.
Brazil's first visit to Nigeria produced plenty for the hosts to admire - and much food for thought for Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu.
