Malawi President Bakili Muluzi
Muluzi is the new owner of the club

Two officials of Bakili Bullets have resigned in protest at the re-naming of Malawi's most popular club after President Bakili Muluzi.

Khrishna Achuthan and Peter Jere said they wanted the club to retain its old name of Big Bullets.

Jere told BBC Sport website that naming the club after the President was an attempt to politicise football.

He said only a mandate from the annual general meeting can change the club's name.

Vice-chairman Dunstain Mwaungulu has also indicated his intention to leave.

"Why should we change the name when the club's constitution has not been amended?," he asked.

The name change follows President Muluzi's to inject $170,000 in sponsorship over five years.

Some critics have accused President Muluzi of using football to woo support for Malawi's the ruling party ahead of next year's general elections.
