Group summary
Nigeria were always going to be favourites to pull through from this three-team group but the Super Eagles did so without any real conviction. Their cause was hardly helped by the fact that they played with a huge question mark hanging over the future of local coach Christian Chukwu. Many observers claim that he lacks the technical expertise to get the best from his players, many of whom perform in some of Europe's top leagues.
Despite a thumping win in their final game, this group also provided further proof of Angola's decline as a football power. They were expected to give Nigeria a good run for their money but nothing materialised. And all that talk from Malawi's supporters that the Flames would set this group on fire turned out to be nothing but the hottest of hot air!
