Zimbabwe 3-1 Seychelles
Adam Ndlovu scored Zimbabwe's third goal |
Zimbabwe preserved their unbeaten record in this group six qualifier but failed to stamp their authority over the lowly-ranked Indian Ocean islanders. The Warriors enjoyed long periods of domination but failed to convert the numerous scoring chances that came their way.
After a deluge of early pressure, captain Peter Ndlovu put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 21st minute when Benjani Mwaruwari was pulled down in the box by Allen Larue.
The other three goals came in a frantic final few minutes of the game played in front of 60,000 fans at the National Stadium.

Substitute Adam Ndlovu tapped in from close range in the 90th minute to put Zimbabwe 2-0 ahead, only for Seychelles to pull a goal back a minute later when Philip Zialor fired home from 20 metres. Another Peter Ndlovu penalty in stoppage time restored pride for Zimbabwe, who are aiming for a first-ever appearance at the Nations Cup finals.
"It was a good result although we didn't play well," said Zimbabwe coach, Sunday Marimo. "I'm not happy with the way we conceded that goal."
The match was the first assignment for German, Michael Nees, who took over as Seychelles coach in February.
"I'm happy with the performance, it was a big step forward for us, but obviously Zimbabwe and Mali are favourites to top the group," said Nees.
