Mido is already making an impact |
Egyptian striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has taken little time to settle in at Celta Vigo in Spain. Mido took just 19 minutes to score in a 2-1 win over Atletico Bilbao.
The player only arrived in Vigo on Monday after Fifa sanctioned his ground-breaking loan from Ajax just three days before.
Despite being outside the winter transfer window, the loan went ahead because Mido will replace Celta's Sebastian Mendez, who is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.
The move could make a huge impact on the transfer market, allowing players to become eligible to move at any time of the year.
Mido's goal also ended Atletico's quest for their 1,000th victory in Spain's top league.
Despite going a head after eight minutes, Mido's goal drew Celta level and then took the lead through a stunning volley from South Africa's Benni McCarthy.
"In the second half we were struggling down the wings and the game could easily have ended in a draw, but I put on Benni as he has the ability to win a game," said coach Miguel Angel Lotina, who not always been complimentary about the striker.
