Odegbami thinks Blatter's comments are out of line. |
The head of Nigeria's bid for the 2010 World Cup has reacted furiously to Sepp Blatter's statement that the proposals are "not feasible". "We have not submitted a bid yet," said Segun Odegbami.
"Nigeria has only indicated an interest to Fifa, but at this point in time there is nothing for anybody to approve or reject."
Nigeria's plan involves matches being played in five countries.
Most would be played in Nigeria itself, with Benin, Cameroon, Ghana and Togo hosting an unspecified number. Nobody knows what we've been thinking and the ideas which we are working on |
"Why would people not give us the benefit of putting together our plan and presenting it before Fifa? "Nobody knows what we've been thinking and the ideas which we are working on," an angry Odegbami told BBC Sport from Lagos.
Fifa has said it is unwilling to have more than one host for future tournaments.
"We had co-hosting for the last World Cup," Blatter told BBC Sport on Monday. "While it was a huge success, it was difficult to organise. If there is to be more co-hosting, it would only be in exceptional circumstances and there will only be one organising committee."
But Odegbami said they know of Fifa's concerns.
"We very aware of the reaction of Fifa to the Korea/Japan co-hosting arrangement, and it would be stupid of us to go and pursue that same line of packaging," he said.
"We haven't told anybody we're co-hosting. We've never used the word 'co-hosting', rather co-operating with a few African countries.
"We will not go outside Fifa guidelines in preparing our bid, and it will be up to the Fifa executive at the appropriate time to accept what we're selling or to reject it.
"We're discussing with Cameroon, Benin, Togo and Ghana and even going beyond that.
"We're thinking of other areas of co-operation with other countries outside of those four. We're packaging a World Cup that we believe will be truly African in content."
