The latest news as Africa prepares for Nations Cup qualifying at the end of March. Ramzy has been dropped from the Egypt team |
14 March: Egypt
Egypt coach Mohsen Saleh has dropped the team's captain, Hany Ramzy, for the first time. Ramzy has not been named in a 25 man squad for the decisive away nations Cup qualifier against Mauritius on 29 March.
The 34-year old defender has been a regular figure in the national team since 1988.
However, Saleh ignored the Kaiserslautern veteran due to his performance in last month's friendly against Denmark, which Egypt lost 1-4 in their own stadium.
Ramzy was not the only casualty of the humiliating defeat against the Danes, as the Greek-based goalkeeper, Nader El Sayed was also denied a recall.
However, troubled star Mido has been called up, despite his problems at club side Ajax.
