Fadiga will miss Senegal's game against Gambia |
Senegal star Khalilou Fadiga will not play in the Lions' next Nations Cup match against Gambia. Fadiga picked up a red card in the Lions' last game, against Lesotho, and will be suspended for the Gambia match.
New Senegal coach Guy Stephan has been forced to consider replacements for the left winger.
In Stephan's first game in charge, against Morocco last month, he handed a full debut to homebased youngster Mouhamadou Diaw.
However, the French coach has been seriously considering some other options too.
Chief among them is Ousmane Ndoye, who is excelling for Toulouse in the French second division.
Ndoye was the player of the tournament as Senegal's under 23s won the 2001 Amilcar Cabral competition, so he has an international pedigree.
Ndoye moved to France at the start of the season, and has been in spakling form.
Now he could be handed the chance to stake a serious claim for a permanent place in the Lions squad.
When Stephan observed Ndoye in a recent match the young winger put in a strong performance, and even scored.
Also on the scoresheet - for Toulouse's opponents Creteil - was an intriguing name: Sadio Sow.
Sow, it turns out, was born in Dakar - and as a wide midfielder or full back he appears to have caught Stephan's attention.
One thing is for sure though: whoever Stephan selects to fill his left-sided gap against Gambia will have to put in a splendid performance to make the Senegalese fans forget about Fadiga.
