Group summary
As expected, Algeria qualified but the Desert Rats were far from impressive. Belgian coach Georges Leekens was appointed midway through the campaign but could not bring the spark back into Algerian football.
Chad had a rather extravagant build-up for the qualifiers with training camps in France and Cameroon. But new Cameroonian coach Jean-Paul Akono could not turn that commitment into results on the pitch. Namibia were the rank outsiders from the onset and the Brave Warriors duly made up the numbers!
