Have Your Say on Ziese
Burkhard Ziese has been appointed as coach of the Black Stars, but only after first being rejected by the Ghana FA.

Is he the right man for the job?

After an extraordinary about-face Ziese was named as coach just seven days after the GFA announced that none of the candidates were suitable.

Does this mean his authority has already been irreperably undermined? Can he convince players like Sammy Kuffour, Alex Nyarko and Otto Addo to return to the national side?

Can Ziese make Ghana great again?

Have Your Say using the form on the right.

Yes he can...
champ, ghana

I'm glad that sanity and wisdom prevailed by resolving and restoring Burkhard Ziese as the head coach of the Black Stars, he's proven it, all he need is the support of Ghanaians - enough of the polictics. GFA, thanks.
Sammy Kwame, Ghana

Abedi Pele should be the Black Stars coach and Burkhard his assistant - that would be the perfect team. Abedi has played at all levels of Ghanian football and Europe, he knows how to play the game so he's not just going to give theoretical instructions. Burkhard on the other hand knows everything you theoretically need to know about football especially in Ghana. I believe they would compliment each other really well and the GFA should consider this if not now then definitely in the near future.
David Wiafe, USA

Bukhard Ziese has the pedigree and character to turn around the fortunes of the Black Stars. But that will depend on how the GFA allows him to work. Let him get on and achieve something reasonable with the team. With his tactical and no-nonsense approach, players and officials will think twice before indulging in any foolish politicking. Ziese will also create a physically strong team: we need rugged players. Give it to Ziese, and see Ghana back in full force.
Olushola Michael, Nigeria

Ghana can only be made great by Ghanaians! Of course Burkhard will come with some discipline, but if the GFA continues to see itself as a rival, and the players continue to view discipline as unimportant, then not even a "boot-kicking" coach can make any impressive changes.
Ghana can only be made great by Ghanaians!
Edmund, Freiburg in Germany
Having said that, I wish Burkhard well, and advise him to remember what happened in 1991, and brace himself appropriately. He can make a name for himself if he qualifies us to Deutscland 2006. After all he qualified us for CAN '92, Ghana having failed to qualify in '86, '88, and '90.
Edmund, Freiberg in Germany

Well, let's give Ziese the benefit of the doubt. The only problem is his outspokeness which most Africans cannot tolerate.
Daniel Owusu, Netherlands

What a shambles!
First, a football association which said none of candidates qualified for the coaching job. Second, a Minister for Sport who is reported to have favoured a local coach, and who after demanding a report on the interview process told his Ministry "was in favour of the German". Third, a decision made as a result of what we are told was based on public outcry. I have no particular preference for who is appointed, except to say that all the Black Stars' Nation's Cup successes have been achieved by local coaches. The ultimate test is if Herr Ziese himself actually takes up the position, as I am sure he would have known that he had not qualified for the job in the first place!
Adekunle Gmez, Dublin, Ireland

It's really good that a decision has been taken. Ghanian soccer fans believe that players like Sammy Kuffour, Sam Johnson, Alex Nyarko and co will come back to help us win the African Nations Cup 2004 and be a worthy representitative at the World Cup 2006.
Henry, Accra

He is the right manager for Ghana's national team. I believe he is the man to bring Ghanaain soccer to life.
Stephen Adjei, London
