2235: That's a wrap. Sergio Aguero will sleep well tonight, I'm sure, safe in the knowledge he is already adored by the Manchester City faithful - as will Brendan Rodgers, safe in the knowledge not every opposition team has a striker quite as good as the £38m Argentine. Just the likes of Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres to worry about going forward, then... phew. I'm back tomorrow for Arsenal's crucial Champions League qualifier first leg against Udinese so I'll see you then, right? Course I will. Sam Lyon out.

OptaJoe on Twitter: "Man City had 15 shots on target tonight, the most by a team in the PL since Spurs' 9-1 win over Wigan in Nov 09. Flying."

Anon via text: "Re. 2200: But only alphabetically! Curse those town founders!"

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at the Etihad Stadium: "Carlos Tevez is still part of Mancini's plans, says the Italian, but what of Samir Nasri? Any news? "I don't know," says the Man City boss..."

2222: MAN CITY 4-0 SWANSEA
BBC Sport Wales' Aled Williams at the Etihad Stadium reports:
"Man City fans streamed out of the stadium with big beaming smiles, after witnessing a clinical second half performance. And what a debut! Welcome to the Premier League, Sergio Aguero."

2220: Let's see what our match reporter made of things...

nrabmotho on Twitter: "West brom, QPR and Swansea bottom three. I can see that at the end of the season."

Chris, Somerset via text: "No disrespect but they were playing Swansea. Let's see Aguero play against the bigger/better teams before se all bow and kiss his feet."

2217: Conversely, Swans boss Brendan Rodgers cuts a surprisingly buoyant figure given the scoreline. Fair play to him. "I'm very very proud of my team tonight," he said. "It's obviously disappointing to concede the goals that we did - you're going to get punished by teams of that class - but to have controlled possession as we did for periods is so encouraging. There were many, many positives for us. We won't be downhearted, we'll play as we play, and we'll work in the knowledge we won't come up against this opposition every week."

billrice23 on Twitter: "'Aguero already has as many goals as Manchester has decent restaurants', Carlos Tevez didn't say."

2210: One man certainly not getting carried away is Man City boss Roberto Mancini, who looks a bit like someone's stolen his last cup cake. Still, he says: "For me, Sergio Aguero is a fantastic player. He is young. He will be a fantastic player in the future. I am delighted after this performance but I think that in the first half Swansea played very well. For 15-20 minutes we had some problems. After we started to press them and we had more chances to score. In the end I am really happy. We played only the first match. The season will be very long but it was important to start like this."

logos8 on Twitter: "Tevez & Aguero could easily win the league for Man City."

Chris, Durham via text: "Bit of perspective please. It was Swansea."

NathanMoore2 on Twitter: "Top scorer this season - Rooney, Torres, Carroll or Aguero? My money still on Rooney."

2200: Some good news for QPR tonight, by the way - they are no longer bottom of the league! Rejoice!

JaimeMH on Twitter: "Quite possibly the greatest debut in Premier League history."

2155: So, erm, consider the bar set astronomically high, then. What a debut from Sergio Aguero - looking every inch the £38m player that he is. Swansea were brave but simply had no answer to the Man City juggernaut in the second half. Roberto Mancini's men go joint top of the Premier League table - and few would bet against them being there or thereabouts come the season's end on that evidence. As for Swansea... well they will fight another day, for sure. They don't have to play Sergio Aguero every week after all...

robindthomas on Twitter: "Erm. So we all knew he was good, but wow. #Aguero."

Full time
2152: FULL-TIME Man City 4-0 Swansea

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson on 5 Live: "Carlos who? That was absolutely fantastic from Sergio Aguero. He's come on, scored two and made one. Sensational."

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Man City goal: Class. Pure class. And a Premier League debut that could not have gone better. Sergio Aguero picks the ball up 25 yards out, takes a touch, and then hammers a dipping strike into the corner brilliantly. An absolute jaffer.

90+1 mins: GOALFLASH Man City 4-0 Swansea (Aguero)

90 mins: We'll have three minutes of stoppage time.

90 mins: ...firmly struck by James Milner, held low down by Michel Vorm.

89 mins: Saying that, the hosts have a free-kick 20 yards out, centre of goal here...

87 mins: Yep, Man City's foot is so far off the pedal in these closing stages they're driving with their feet hanging out of the window. Swansea taking the chance to refamiliarise themselves with the ball - but to no effect in front of City's oh-so solid back four.

84 mins: Swansea, Rocky-style, are not going to give up here despite receiving the footballing equivalent of a bit of a beating this half. Man City are happy to ease off now with the three points secured.

82 mins: Change apiece - James Milner on for David Silva and Leroy Lita on for Nathan Dyer.

81 mins: Chance for Swansea as Scott Sinclair muscles through on goal but his low effort from the angle is well stopped by Joe Hart on the stretch. Encouraging for Swansea, who have not thrown the towel in here.

80 mins: A couple of minutes of Swansea pressure ends with a lightning Man City break and Sergio Aguero is inches away from getting on the end of David Silva's through-ball. Already looking like they've got a great understanding, those two...

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at the Etihad Stadium: "Er, can I be the first to say that this Aguero bloke looks a bit good? Thought not."

Yasar_P on Twitter: "What did I say about Aguero? This kid is CLASS! He will win the title for City this year, mark my words!"

77 mins: ...cracking save! Yaya Toure drills the free-kick at goal, it takes a wicked deflection off the Swansea wall, but down gets Michel Vorm to grab on with his fingertips right on the line.

76 mins: Wahey - haven't seen one of these for a while - it's a deliberate back-pass! Man City free-kick, indirect, 16 yards out...

74 mins: Man City change - summer signing Stefan Savic on for Adam Johnson. Savic, by the way, cost twice as much as Danny Graham - Swansea's record signing. I'll stop banging on about this soon.

73 mins: Three goals in 14 minutes there for Man City and Swansea have been hit by the ol' triple combo.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Man City goal: Deary me - Sergio Aguero looks absolutely golden. The Argentine turns creator this time, chasing down his own lob to hook back in play from right on the byeline, presenting David Silva with a simple finish 12 yards out.

71 mins: GOALFLASH Man City 3-0 Swansea (Silva)

70 mins: Can Swansea respond? Wayne Routledge - who has never scored in the Premier League - tries his luck from range on his 100th top flight appearance - but it's well wide.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Man City goal: Debut delight. He won't get very many simpler goals, but you gotta get in the right areas haven't you? Sergio Aguero sends the home fans into raptures with a toe-poke home from all of three yards out from Micah Richards's fine low cross - and a new Man City star is born. Nine minutes that took him.

68 mins: GOALFLASH Man City 2-0 Swansea (Aguero)

67 mins: ...and it's cleared by the Man City defence.

67 mins: ... Swansea corner earned...

66 mins: Now can the Swans work something with this? Free-kick to the left of the Man City area, 20 yards out...

65 mins: Double change for Swansea - Leon Britton and Stephen Dobbie replaced by Joe Allen and Wayne Routledge, who makes his debut for his seventh(!) Premier League club. Blimey.

bilmeister88 on Twitter: "Is it too early to say it's quite clear after one game it will be Man Utd and Man City fighting for the title this year?"

61 mins: Save! Almost the dream introduction for Sergio Aguero, the Argentine turning on the edge of the box and lashing goalwards left-footed - Michel Vorm earning some semblance of redemption with yet another flying one-handed stop.

60 mins: And just to add salt into Swansea's wounds, Man City boss Roberto Mancini responds to going a goal up by replacing midfielder Nigel de Jong with record signing striker Sergio Aguero. Ouch.

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson on 5 Live: "A great run by, who else? David Silva. Well done to Edin Dzeko, who reacted very, very quickly. [The 'keeper] parried it left-handed. It was just a strange thing to do. He didn't need to do it."

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Man City goal: It's been coming - but what a shame it involves an error from the otherwise faultless Michel Vorm, the keeper palming Adam Johnson's curler straight at Edin Dzeko six yards out, the Bosnian prodding into the empty net first time.

57 mins: GOALFLASH Man City 1-0 Swansea (Dzeko)

56 mins: More respite for the Swans as Stephen Dobbie, Nathan Dyer and Kemy Augstien knock the ball about in midfield - at least until the latter drifts a ball lazily over the top and out for a goal kick. Lack of patience, there.

PREMIER LEAGUE FACT: In the last 10 months, Manchester City have failed to score in the first half in four PL home matches. They went on to lose two of those matches and drew the other two 0-0.
Courtesy of Infostrada Sports

53 mins: Swansea break... four on three... Stephen Dobbie tries his luck from range with a stinger - fine save on the stretch by Joe Hart. Swansea's best attacking moment of the game.

51 mins: Ooh good defensive lines from Swansea as they push up to leave Edin Dzeko offside just as the Bosnian thinks he has been set through on goal by... who else... Yaya Toure.

50 mins: He might have left his shooting boots at home tonight, but by golly Yaya Toure is everywhere tonight.

48 mins: Man City picking up where they left off with another brisk break, but Swansea do well to clear the resulting corner.

2105: ...just as news reaches me that Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher made his return from illness in a reserve-team clash against Arsenal tonight. You care not? Right, moving on...

2104: The second half gets under way...

2102: So how long before we see Sergio "£13m more expensive than the entire Swansea squad" Aguero, then?

Jayjay_89_ on Twitter: "After a drab weekend, Swansea have single-handedly restored my faith in football."

Bazzoid via text: "Watching Man City try and walk it in is SO like Arsenal.... And just as 'effective'"

JoeBlackhurst89 on Twitter: "I bet Fergie wishes he'd Vormed out a goalkeeper as good as Swansea's!"

2055: Now then, are you lot shaking like the Swansea crossbar at the prospect of getting your name up on this here text commentary? Of course you are. Well Tweet the commentary via the hashtag #BBCFootball, Tweet me @sampatricklyon or text in via 81111 (UK) - and I'll do my best to get your name up in lights. Aces.

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at the Etihad Stadium: "Man City end the first half on a high note by hitting the woodwork again - ominous signs for Swansea. Home fans a lot happier now."

Peter via text: "The VORMinator is a top goalkeeper."

TWoods34 on Twitter: "Swansea's new keeper is certainly on good Vorm..."

Half time
2051: HALF-TIME Man City 0-0 Swansea
Aled Williams's HT snap-shot:
"Swansea didn't look out of place early on... but the longer the half wore on, the more threatening City looked and only the bar and debutant Michel Vorm has so far denied them. This can't stay 0-0 for long, surely..."

2048: And there goes the half-time whistle. The Swansea fans celebrate as if they've just gone 4-0 up in an FA Cup final. Says a lot, that.

Someone has struck the woodwork
45+2mins: Crossbar! Again! The ball pings around the Swansea box before falling to Gareth Barry 20 yards out, but the England midfielder's drilled effort crashes back off the woodwork to huge sighs of relief from the away support.

45 mins: Michel Vorm - looking like a top signing. Edin Dzeko collects the ball and bundles his way into the box to line up a glorious chance one-on-one, but Vorm is out quickly spreading himself to keep the Bosnian's finish out. Excellent keeping.

44 mins: There you go again - Man City building nicely with some one-touch football in and around the box before Yaya Toure (again) slaps goalwards - straight at Michel Vorm.

42 mins: And the Welsh side will get there on level terms if Man City continue to waste decent openings like that - Yaya Toure, who is starting to cause all sorts of problems, blazing over after being found in the box by Micah Richards's lay-off.

41 mins: Swansea gasping for half time right now.

39 mins: Two chances in a minute for Man City. First Michel Vorm fingertips Yaya Toure's drive on the back of a lung-busting run around the post and then David Silva volleys over when well placed 10 yards out after a half-clearance from a Swans player.

37 mins: Yep, Swansea are strangers to the ball right now - unlike Adam Johnson, who is full of life down the right with a buzzing run, his cross well cut out by the safe pair of hands of visiting keeper Michel Vorm.

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at the Etihad Stadium: "The (Michel) Vorm has turned for Man City in the last few minutes. Really taking the game to Swansea now."

32 mins: ...that comes to nothing.

32 mins: Real head of steam about Man City now. And another corner...

Someone has struck the woodwork
30 mins: Crossbar! Best move of the match from Man City and it looked for all the world like ending with a goal when Adam Johnson picked David Silva out dashing into the box - only for the Spaniard's rising effort to crash back off the bar. So close.

28 mins: Much better, this, from Man City - though Adam Johnson's long-ranger is low and right at Michel Vorm in the Swansea goal.

27 mins: ...nope, headed tamely into the arms of Michel Vorm by Vincent Kompany. There was half a penalty claim moments ago, by the way, when Edin Dzeko's clip caught Ashley Williams on the arm - but it was very much a case of ball-to-hand and referee Mike Dean was having none of it.

26 mins: Corner to Man City...

25 mins: Man City finally sticking the after-burners on now, getting right back in the game.

24 mins: Fine save! Swansea debutant Michel Vorm shows why Brendan Rodgers parted with £1.5m for his services this summer with a flying stop to deny David Silva's goalbound curler - good effort, top stop.

22 mins: That's careless from Yaya Toure, giving the ball away twice in quick succession to call a halt to a couple of promising Man City moves. It's been a breezy start to this match, but no real chances since that first-minute Toure effort.

iamadamsykes on Twitter: "What's Welsh for tiki-taka?"

19 mins: Ooh, half a glimpse again at Scott Sinclair's incisive pace... the Swansea forward almost getting in behind the Man City defence from Danny Graham's through ball, but he is flagged offside.

16 mins: Man City are no slouches on the ball themselves, though, and Micah Richards is inches away from turning David Silva's dink into the box goalwards on the stretch as he gets in behind the Swansea defence.

15 mins: Very impressed so far with Swansea, who are knocking the ball about as if they're Premier League veterans. Man City barely getting a sniff at present.

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson on 5 Live: "If Swansea keep playing this way, keeping the ball, it'll be difficult for Man City"

13 mins: Stephen Dobbie, of course, not Scott Dobbie.

12 mins: First shot in anger at goal from the visitors, but Stephen Dobbie's ambitious effort from 20 yards flies way off target.

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at the Etihad Stadium: "Electric atmosphere at the Etihad. The Swansea fans haven't shut up yet. Swans boss Brendan Rodgers has not sat down yet either."

9 mins: And now the Swans earn a corner... that comes to nothing.

8 mins: If anything... that early Yaya Toure chance aside, Swansea are bossing these opening stages. Seriously.

6 mins: Swansea certainly are sticking to their footballing principles so far - and Man City are hardly having it all their own way as a result. Lively start.

4 mins: First spell of real possession for Swansea and that might settle them down a touch - Scott Sinclair hinting at his uber-pace with a dash down the left, well defended by Micah Richards.

3 mins: Blistering start to this match from both sides. 100mph.

1 min: First minute, first chance for Man City. This could be a long night for Swansea. David Silva does well down the hosts' left before cutting back for Yaya Toure to slap at goal unmarked 16 yards out, Alan Tate producing a fabulous block to clear the goalbound effort away. What a balloon-pop moment that would've been for Swansea.

Whistle
2001: Manchester City get us up and running... and Swansea are officially a Premier League outfit.

2000: Are you ready?

1958: Here come the teams, then - with Swansea, in Garry Monk's absence, captained by Alan Tate, a man who has played with the club in all four divisions as well as the match that saw the club come within 90 minutes of dropping out of the Football League in 2003. What a moment for him and what a story for him and the club.

1956: But what do stats really tell us? Exactly.

1954: So Swansea fans - fancy more odds-stacking stats against you? While Manchester City are unbeaten in all five of their season-opening home games in the Premier League, with five draws, Swansea have lost their last five games on the opening day of the season, the current longest such run of any side in the four tiers of English football. Oof.

chris1ian on Twitter: "Am I the only person who thinks Aguero is a bit of a panic buy? City just need to get their current players playing properly."

Gerard, Derby via text: "Am I the only one who sees something - Swansea are a team together, City never will be. Optimistic, 1-1 draw."

1951: What did they say? Roberto Mancini: "Sergio Aguero is not ready, he is not 100%, but it is possible he will come on. This will be a very tough game for us, especially with it being Swansea's first in the Premier League." And Brendan Rodgers: "There is a real sense of excitement. Every game will be very difficult for us and this will be no different. We like to pass the ball, we are at a different level now but the philosophy has to be the same." Sets us up nicely, I reckon.

1948: I tell you something, people, a look at the managers in their pre-match interviews tells a story. Home boss Roberto Mancini looks a lot like he's wearing stinging nettle pants, while Swans manager Brendan Rodgers is so relaxed he could be offering his thoughts from a sun lounger on some far-flung beach somewhere. I wonder...

Buckethandle on Twitter: "Wife says I can only go to the pub to watch game if I get this message on board. Otherwise I'm washing up. Help please!"

PREMIER LEAGUE FACT: Bolton Wanderers could end this weekend at the top of the Premier League. The last time they led the competition at the end of a match round was seven years ago after a 4-1 win against Charlton Athletic on the opening day. They were joint top then with Arsenal who won 4-1 at Everton.
Courtesy of Infostrada Sports

MDWilliams_91 on Twitter: "Great to see Adam Johnson starting. Prediciting big things from him this season."

1941: MAN CITY v SWANSEA (2000)
BBC Sport Wales' Aled Williams at the Etihad Stadium reports:
"This should be quite a night for Swansea, who make their first appearance in the Premier League and in doing so become the first Welsh club to play in the competition. Remarkably, all of this takes place just eight years after they came within a defeat of dropping out of the Football League. Of course, this will be of little interest to Manchester City, who ended 35 years without a trophy by winning last season's FA Cup and will have their eyes on even bigger prizes this season. City have spent big once again over the summer and expectations are sure to be sky high again."

nazzaman007 on Twitter: "Swansea are my team from the Championship this season ! Could they be the Blackpool of the Premier League?"

1937: MAN CITY v SWANSEA (2000)
Man City:
Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Toure Yaya, De Jong, Barry, Silva, Dzeko, Johnson. Subs: Taylor, Zabaleta, Milner, Kolarov, Savic, Aguero, Balotelli.
Swansea: Vorm, Rangel, Caulker, Williams, Tate, Britton, Dobbie, Agustien, Dyer, Graham, Sinclair. Subs: Moreira, Orlandi, Routledge, Lita, Moore, Allen, Gower.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)

ChrisScott83 on Twitter: "As a neutral, I really don't envy Swansea tonight. A hiding definately on the cards."

Anon via text: "I might not be very good with history, but didn't David beat Goliath?"

shorsfa on Twitter: "Got to say, on paper, giants against dwarfs tonight, let's hope its not too one-sided!"

1931: Fans of Lawro's Predictions, meanwhile, may be interested to hear from the BBC football pundit and all-round top bloke Mark Lawrenson at the Etihad Stadium, and he's predicts a big season for the blue half of Manchester. "This year I think City will push Manchester United more than any other team. And I believe Roberto Mancini has not yet finished recruiting and will add another two or three players before the transfer deadline close." Ominous.

1928: Ahead of the game, by the way, Manchester City chief executive Gary Cook gave a revealing interview to BBC 5 Live's Ian Dennis. On Tevez, he said "He's still our player and I have not spoken to anybody about anything that would dispel that notion." Nasri is an Arsenal player and "we need to respect that", Cook added, while admitting City's spending is "not sustainable" but was needed to get the club into the Champions League. The season ahead? Cook says Mancini will "no doubt be trying to win every single one" of the four major competitions. Who said 'pressure cooker'?

PREMIER LEAGUE FACT: Swansea become the 45th club to play in the Premier League while Manchester City were among one of the original 22 member clubs in 1992. They last met in English football's top flight during the 1982/83 season, at the end of which both sides were relegated. Anyone believe in... omens? *Snigger*

g33kNchips on Twitter: "As a Spurs fan, I'm very, very interested to see how Steven Caulker does today for Swansea, a brilliant prospect."

Former Swansea and Wales striker and BBC Radio Wales pundit, Ian Walsh: "It's a momentous occasion for Swansea. The fans here at the Etihad Stadium and those watching and listening at home will be kicking and heading every ball. It's important that Swansea have a good level of performance, not just today but throughout the course of the season."

1924: Let me give you a flavour of the task facing Swansea tonight, shall I? Well estimates suggest the Swans' squad cost the club around £25m - £13m less than the cost of just one Sergio Aguero and £365m less than the staggering cost of this Man City collection. Add to that the fact the visitors will be fielding nine Premier League debutants tonight against a team that have won nine and lost none of their last 10 Premier league home games and you get the feeling even David v Goliath does match-up this little justice.

ODubzz on Twitter: "No matter how good we are on paper, Man City will always get my nerves going before a game."

Anon via text: "Got Yaya Toure as captain in my fantasy team but I dont want to see Man City win so I'm hoping for 4-3 to Swansea with Toure grabbing a sneaky hat-trick!"

1919: MAN CITY v SWANSEA (2000)
BREAKING TEAM NEWS
BBC Sport Wales' Aled Williams at the Etihad Stadium reports:
"Tonight's teams have just been announced. Gael Clichy makes his home debut for Manchester City while record signing Sergio Aguero is among the substitutes. Aguero was signed for a reported £38m, 10 times the record fee Swansea paid Watford for striker Danny Graham, who makes his debut along with goalkeeper Michel Vorm and Steven Caulker."

1918: We'll also have plenty of chat from inside the Etihad Stadium, too, with Chris Bevan and Aled Williams in situ to bring you all the sights and sounds from the terraces. Talking of which...

DustbinHoffman on Twitter: "Surreal. It's happening. Premier League. Come on Swans, make us proud."

Smithers in sunny Valencia via text: "No upset tonight, Sam: City to beat Swansea 3-0... With Aguero to come off the bench and show the Premier League he is this season's top scorer in waiting."

SHoare93 on Twitter: "Can Man City provide the Premier League with a first home won of the new season? A feat nobody has yet achieved!"

1915: Absolutely no reason, then, for you lovely lot not to get involved. Tweet the commentary via the hashtag #BBCFootball, Tweet me @sampatricklyon or text in via 81111 (UK). Jubbly.

1910: Of course, whichever way you look at it, this is a big opportunity for Man City to lay a marker down tonight. Draws for Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool this weekend mean an early chance for Man Utd's 'noisy neighbours' to steal a march on their title rivals. And the opportunity is no smaller for Swansea - win this and a huge statement will have been made. It's cooking, this fixture.

1905: Yep, just the one match tonight as the season-opening round of Premier League fixtures draws to a close (barring the postponed Tottenham-Everton match, of course) - and it's an absolute doozy. Manchester City v Swansea - a clash of two teams almost at polar opposites of the ambition scale in this league right now. Man City have set their sights on ultimate glory, while I dare say the Swans would bite your hand off simply for survival this campaign. Saying that, this is day one of their seasons, people, and the two teams' carte is very much blanche at present. Anyone ruling out an upset?

1900: It's taken 19 years, but finally the English Premier League welcomes a touch of Wales to its shores this evening. Swansea City are in town - and as introductions go, a trip to the richest club in the country Man City is about as hot as it gets. Are they buzzing? You betcha. Optimistic? Definitely. Overwhelmed? We shall see...
