Jarvis has enjoyed a solid season for Wolves

Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has been called up by England for the first time, for the Euro 2012 qualifying match against Wales on Saturday.

Jarvis, 24, has made a couple of provisional squads this season but not boss Fabio Capello's final cut.

With Theo Walcott injured and Adam Johnson only just fit again and not included, he will be competing with Aaron Lennon and Ashley Young.

As expected, Liverpool striker Andy Carroll returns to the squad.

Carroll impressed Capello when he made his debut in the friendly defeat to France in November as a Newcastle player.

The forward has since moved to Anfield in a £35m deal but missed last month's encounter with Denmark because of a thigh injury.

He has started in Liverpool's last two matches, against Braga and Sunderland, and the England coach always made it clear he would return once he had regained his fitness.

Lennon is included for the first time since England's last qualifier against Montenegro in October.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka is back, along with Tottenham striker Peter Crouch, in a 26-man squad that will also feature in the friendly match against Ghana at Wembley on 29 March.

It is the Wales encounter that is crucial, though, with England knowing they cannot afford to drop points at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Rivals Montenegro have claimed 10 points from their opening four games in Group G.

If Jarvis is selected for either of the forthcoming games, he would become the first Wolves player to appear for England in over two decades, since striker Steve Bull won the last of his 13 caps in October 1990.

Terry should be fit to return as England skipper

Released by Millwall as a teenager, the Middlesbrough-born winger made the grade at Gillingham, making over 100 appearances for the Kent outfit before he was snapped up by Wolves in 2007.

A key member of Wolves' 2009 promotion-winning squad, Jarvis scored his fifth goal of the season in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has said that John Terry was "happy" after being reinstated as England captain just over a year after being stripped of the honour.

Capello took the captaincy from Terry last February following allegations the defender had an affair with the ex-girlfriend of then international team-mate Wayne Bridge.

But with Terry's successor as skipper Rio Ferdinand persistently injured, Capello has taken the controversial decision to reinstate the Chelsea star.

Ancelotti said: "I think John is happy with this. I think he will be, so I am very happy.

"A man is a leader not because he has the armband on his arm. He's a leader because he's a professional and he's at the top, like John Terry is."

Ancelotti said Terry would be fit to lead England out at the Millennium Stadium despite going down in agony during the second half of Chelsea's Premier League win over Manchester City on Sunday.

England are second in Group G with seven from three matches, while Wales are bottom having lost all three of their games so far.
