Stevenage 0 - 1 Brentford

Robbie Simpson fired Brentford through to the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the expense of League Two side Stevenage.

The on-loan Huddersfield Town striker scored the only goal of an entertaining contest, a powerful 28th-minute header from Nicky Adams's cross.

Simpson's fourth goal of the season saw League One Brentford bounce back from Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Rochdale.

But they got a good run for their money from football league new Stevenage.

Simpson was denied a second goal after another good block from home keeper Chris Day, who also saved from Adams.

But Brentford's Richard Lee was the busier of the two keepers, being forced to produce a string of good saves from Mark Roberts, John Mousinho, twice from Yemi Odubade, who also twice shot over, and Peter Winn.
