Liverpool 1-2 Reading (AET): The Reds show off Maxi Rodriguez, their new signing from Atletico Madrid, before their home replay against Brian McDermott's Championship outfit
The game begins with the visitors putting in a series of heavy tackles against Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard, while Simon Church is a constant nuisance to the Liverpool defence
Torres takes a knock to his knee and tries to run it off but Rafael Benitez substitutes his star striker midway through the first half as a precaution
Liverpool take the lead in the cruellest fashion in first-half injury time as Gerrard's cross ricochets in off Reading defender Ryan Bertrand after the Royals make the two clearest chances of the game
Gerrard also gets taken off at the start of the second half and Reading capitalise with good possession and chances, the best of which falls to Jobi McAnuff, before Gylfi Sigurdsson's injury-time penalty
The Icelandic international keeps his cool and dispatches the spot kick, which Yossi Benayoun concedes by tripping Shane Long, to send the game in to extra time
The shocks keep coming at Anfield: Brynjar Gunnarsson beats Benayoun and Emiliano Insua down the right and sticks the ball to the near post for Shane Long to head home
Liverpool are left adrift in the league and out of both cups while the winning goal, in front of the Kop, is Long's first of the season and gives McDermott his first victory in charge of Reading
Newcastle United 3-0 Plymouth Argyle: Groundstaff at St James' Park prepare the pitch - on which the Magpies have beaten Argyle already this season - ahead of the all-Championship replay
United are soon in the lead through Peter Lovenkrands, which should assure a win as they have only conceded four goals at home, while Argyle have only scored 21 in all competitions, any ground, all season
The action is one-way and Kevin Nolan, perhaps Newcastle's player of the season so far, sees a good chance wasted against a team 21 places below them in the league
For the second time in the game Jonas Gutierrez makes his way down the left and lays the ball on for Peter Lovenkrands, who, again, finds the back of the net
Try as Gutierrez may to get on the scoresheet, it is Lovenkrands who gets the home side's third, and completes his hat-trick, this time set up by Andy Carroll
