Bradford reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Section semi-final by beating Port Vale 5-4 on penalties.
The home side's Steve Williams struck the decisive spot-kick after Bradford keeper Simon Eastwood had saved three of Vale's penalties in the shoot-out.
Vale had taken a 1-0 lead in normal time through John McCombe but Michael Flynn equalised with a header.
James Hanson nodded Bradford ahead before Robert Taylor's late goal set up a penalty shoot-out.
Bradford City manager Stuart McCall told BBC Radio Leeds:
"Obviously I'm delighted first and foremost to get into the hat for the next round.
"The first half wasn't good enough - we were sloppy in possession and didn't get around them enough - but the second half we came out of the traps and it was a great cup tie.
"When you've got to rely on your three defenders to get you through penalties then we are struggling, but they all did well."
Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:
"We've been punished tonight for a couple of people switching off at set-pieces.
"At this level, if you haven't got five six-footers in your side, it's a problem for you.
"We didn't have enough to combat their aerial threat, so we're disappointed."
