MK Dons 2-0 Southend

MK Dons debutant Aaron Doran scored his first professional goal as Paul Ince's men cruised into the quarter-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The winger, on loan from Blackburn, raced onto Aaron Wilbraham's pass to slot past keeper Steve Mildenhall.

Mark Carrington added a second on the stroke of half-time with a confident finish from another Wilbraham ball.

Mildenhall denied Jemal Jackson four times and Wilbraham hit the bar before Franck Moussa went close for Southend.

MK Dons coach Alex Rae told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"I think the way we applied ourselves to the game was admirable and there was a lot of positives to take from the game.

"Their keeper was man of the match and has pulled off a lot of good saves there."

Southend United manager Steve Tilson told BBC Essex:

"We were beaten by a better side, by a long way.

"Compared to Saturday it was totally different - we worked ever so hard then to get a result and today was the total opposite.

"As a club I think we need to apologise to the supporters because I thought we didn't work hard enough and I'm really disappointed."
