Bradford came from behind to beat League Two rivals Rochdale in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Dale took the lead through Craig Dawson who fired in after Jason Kennedy played the ball into the penalty area.
The Bantams equalised courtesy of a brilliant 25-yard free-kick from the boot of Michael Flynn.
With 11 minutes to go, Scott Neilson grabbed the winner for Bradford when his 20-yard drive took a deflection off Marcus Holness before looping in.
Bradford City manager Stuart McCall told BBC Radio Leeds:
"I think the intent was there from both managers and both sets of players - we both put a strong side out.
"It's always tough to come to Rochdale, but I thought the we showed good character in the second half - scored two good goals and looked a good side.
"Confidence comes from winning football games - no matter what competition you're in."
