Nigel Clough says he and his family will not watch the film 'The Damned United' when it comes out next week.

Based on the book about his dad Brian's 44 days at Leeds in 1974, Derby manager Clough says the story has upset members of his family, including his mother.

"The book deeply upset a lot of people when it came out, including my mum," Clough told BBC Radio Derby.

"I'll go with the principle that if the film is based on the book, we won't be going down the road of seeing it."

The film's premiere takes place at Leicester Square in London on Wednesday night and will be officially released on Friday 27 March.

It follows Clough Sr during his infamous 44-day spell at Leeds, the book's author David Peace claiming it is "a fiction based on a fact".

Peace presents his subject as a man consumed by paranoia, driven on by fear of failure and struggling with alcohol problems.

But Clough Jr says he has spoken to people within football who have told him the story bears no resemblance to what actually happened.

"There's always some rubbish or other floating around, but I think the difference was that this one was quite deep," he said.

"Ron Atkinson was one of the first people to get in touch, to say he didn't remember it like this, that this wasn't how it happened.

"I haven't personally read the book and I won't be watching the film."
