Brewster wants Pressley presence

Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Craig Brewster says he has targeted Steven Pressley as the man who can lead his side clear of relegation.

Veteran former Scotland defender Pressley is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Danish football.

"We are looking for a leader," said Brewster after a 3-0 defeat by Rangers that left his side bottom of the table.

"We have put in an offer for Steven and we are waiting to hear, but he has other options on the Continent."

Pressley, who is an assistant to Scotland manager George Burley, said last week on his return from his spell with Randers that he was weighing up offers from English clubs and one from the top-flight in Switzerland.

The 35-year-old former Rangers, Hearts, Celtic and Coventry City defender would not rule out signing for a Scottish Premier League club and that appears to have ignited Caley Thistle's interest.

The guys are low on confidence because we aren't winning

Brewster, whose side have now lost six games in a row, said: "We need new faces to give ourselves a lift.

"We don't really have people putting pressure on the guys in the first team, so we will be trying to strengthen during January."

Brewster was happy with his side's performance for two thirds of the game against Rangers but admitted that the heads went down after the visitors' second goal.

"The guys are low on confidence because we aren't winning," he said.

"But it's amazing how things can turn around in football."

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Supporters' Trust has voiced concern about the direction of the board - and the management team - with some fans displaying a banner outside Caledonian Stadium on Saturday asking for Brewster to be sacked.

"I am the same as any other manager - there's pressure to win," he said in response.

"It's a new experience for us to find ourselves at the bottom at this time of the year.

"There's no hiding place, but we know what we have to do to get through it."
